PTA EVENTS AND FUNDRAISING
Last year the efforts of the Muir PTA raised more than $75,000, used toward art and science programs, technology, teacher education, library improvements, classroom supplies, field trips, and other projects in support of our students. Major fundraising events include:
- Innisbrook Sale (September) Students bring home catalogs from the Innisbrook gift wrap company. Families are encouraged to sell Innisbrook products to friends, relatives, and co-workers. PTA receives 50 percent of sales, including online purchases made year-round (www.innisbrook.com; be sure to input school ID number 109174).
- Direct Drive (September June) The PTA asks each family to give what it can to support the PTA's programs. Installment payments by credit card gladly accepted.
- Jog-a-Thon (November) Every child at Muir and many teachers participate in this high-energy fundraiseralso the year's biggest fun-raiser!
- Silent Auction & Dinner (February) During this festive evening, held last year at The Victorian on Main Street, items ranging from playdates with teachers to fabulous weekend getaways will be auctioned off.
- Book Fair (June) Children and their families are encouraged to purchase items at the Scholastic Book Fair, held in the Media Center.
- Art + Antique Fair (year-round) Antiques, collectibles, jewelry, vintage clothing, and all things artful are sold the first Saturday of each month in the parking lot of Olympic High School (former site of John Muir Elementary), at the corner of Ocean Park and Lincoln Boulevards. Food and entertainment too! Vendor fees directly support the Muir PTA. The event is run by parent volunteers filling 5 positions: Producer, Event Manager, Sales Director, Advertising Director and Accounts Director. - eScrip & Albertsons Community Partners (year-round) These programs allow you to raise money for the PTA simply by using your credit card to shop at certain stores or Internet businesses. Sign up online using Muir's ID number: www.escrip.com (6540794); www.albertsons.com/cp (ID number TBA; or ask for a sign-up form in the school office).
- Library Upgrade Exciting changes are in the works, including bright new paint and carpeting and expansion of our collection. This year the joint MuirSMASH Library Upgrade Project committee will fund-raise to purchase furniture and continue into the next phase of the redesign.
- Printer Cartridge Recycling (year-round) Earn money for Muir each time you recycle a computer printer cartridge. Place an individual cartridge in a preaddressed plastic envelope available in the school office, and simply drop it into a mailbox. Larger toner cartridges may be placed in a box by the entrance of the library near Room 205.
- Spirit Wear (year-round) Show your school spirit by buying and wearing our newly designed John Muir T-shirts. Child and adult sizes. Profits support the PTA.
- Parent Education The PTA hosts three Parent Ed evenings featuring guest speakers. (20062007 dates: Oct 18, January 17, May 16)
- Special Events The PTA sponsors various Special Events aimed at building community among John Muir families:

- Magic Show (January)
- Spelling Bee (February)
- Intercultural Celebration (March)
- John Muir's Birthday Celebration (April)
- Reading Night (June)
